This Old Man is inspired by the national and global effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.  The novel Coronavirus IS and has been the news for months now and has taken a devastating toll on our nation’s health and well-being.  Life as we know it has changed dramatically and the effects will be long-lasting on our healthcare system and our economy.

This Old Man is a more personal story about the fight against COVID-19 from the perspective of a WWII D-Day survivor who is now battling the virus – an unseen enemy.  He not only tells of his wartime experience, but encourages all of us to take an active role in this present day battle.  He also acknowledges the heroic effort of our health care professionals and first responders. Ultimately, in a testament to the American fighting spirit, he assures us all that, in solidarity and with God’s help, we’ll defeat COVID-19.

The story behind the song is particularly important to me since I have entertained many WWII veterans at care facilities in the last year, many of whom are fighting for their lives right now. I also have three brothers who have proudly served our country. For this reason, This Old Man has a patriotic soundtrack to reflect the power of the American spirit.
